当一个化学反应（尤其是有机化学反应）被某人所发现或加以推广，便以他的名字来命名作为纪念，这样命名的化学反应称为人名反应（Name reaction）。著名的人名反应包括维蒂希反应、克莱森缩合反应、傅里德尔-克拉夫茨反应、狄尔斯-阿尔德反应等等。在过万个种化学反应之中，有数百种透过这个形式命名。 坊间不乏专题介绍命名反应的书籍， 例如《默克索引》，是一本化学反应的百科全书，亦在附录中记载了不少的命名反应。

在二十世纪的有机化学发展期间，化学家普遍接受将应用层面大的人工合成的化学反应以发现者来命名。在多数情况下，这些名字可帮助记忆和便于进行交流。然而有部分命名反应与其发现者不相符，例子包括伯奇还原反应、Pummerer重排反应等等。

A name reaction is a chemical reaction named after its discoverers or developers. Well known examples include the Wittig reaction, the Claisen condensation, the Friedel-Crafts acylation, and the Diels-Alder reaction. Among the tens of thousands of organic reactions that are known, hundreds of such reactions are well-known enough to be named after people. Books have been published devoted exclusively to name reactions; the Merck Index, a chemical encyclopedia, also includes an appendix on name reactions.
