海洋与白垩纪晚期相比没有多少变化，但是海洋生物大量灭绝后，幸存者寥寥，海洋爬行动物和其他一些鲜为人知的动物都已经消失。

The Danian is the oldest age or lowermost stage of the Paleocene epoch or series, the Paleogene period or system and the Cenozoic era or erathem. The beginning of the Danian age (and the end of the preceding Maastrichtian age) is at the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event 66 Ma. The age ended 61.6 Ma, being followed by the Selandian age.
