0G，是指无线技术最早的拓荒时代，即是前蜂巢式技术（Pre-cellular）时代，或称前移动通信时代。一按通，移动电话系统，改进型移动电话系统，AMTS，OLT，MTD，Autotel／PALM ，ARP都是属于0G技术。

早期的移动电话系统可区分为早期封闭无线电话系统，因为它们可以作为一个商业服务，公共交换电话网的一部份，他们用自己专属的电话号码，而不是部分封闭网络，如警察广播电台或出租车调度系统。

1966年 Televerket在挪威开设了第一家手动移动电话系统。稍后挪威成为欧洲第一个国家获得一个自动移动电话系统。

Mobile radio telephone (or 0G) systems preceded modern cellular mobile telephony technology. Since they were the predecessors of the first generation of cellular telephones, these systems are sometimes retroactively referred to as pre cellular (or sometimes zero generation) systems. Technologies used in pre cellular systems included the Push to Talk (PTT or manual), Mobile Telephone System (MTS), Improved Mobile Telephone Service (IMTS), and Advanced Mobile Telephone System (AMTS) systems. These early mobile telephone systems can be distinguished from earlier closed radiotelephone systems in that they were available as a commercial service that was part of the public switched telephone network, with their own telephone numbers, rather than part of a closed network such as a police radio or taxi dispatch system.
