中项
在直言三段论中，中项是指在二个前提中都出现，但不在结论中出现的词项，一般用M表示。中项必须在至少一个前提中周延（范畴的所有个体都被涉及到），但不需在结论中周延。
以下是一个直言三段论的例子，中项以粗体表示：
- 大前提：人都会死。
- 小前提：苏格拉底是人。
- 结论：苏格拉底会死。
其中的人为中项。

Middle term 中项In logic, a middle term is a term that appears (as a subject or predicate of a categorical proposition) in both premises but not in the conclusion of a categorical syllogism. The middle term (in bold below) must be distributed in at least one premise but not in the conclusion. The major term and the minor terms, also called the end terms, do appear in the conclusion.
