Machida(町田市,Machida-shi) is a city in the western part of the metropolitan area of Tokyo, Japan. The city was founded on February 1, 1958.
As of July 1, 2014, the city has an estimated population of 426,349 and a population density of 5,952.93 persons per km². The total area is 71.63km². Machida is also the home of Obirin University and Tamagawa University.
