1582 Martir (1950 LY) is a main-belt asteroid discovered on June 15, 1950, by Miguel Itzigsohn at La Plata. at the La Plata Astronomical Observatory in La Plata, Argentina. The object was named for Argentine first lady Eva Perón, and its name translates from Spanish to "martyr", a term sometimes given her alongside in relation to her work towards social justice. The asteroids 1569 Evita, 1581 Abanderada, 1588 Descamisada and 1589 Fanatica were also discovered by Itzigsohn, and were also given names in tribute to Perón.
