寒武纪（Cambrian，符号Ꞓ）是显生宙的开始，距今约5亿4千1百万年前—4亿8千8百万年。这个名字来自于英国威尔士的一个古代地名罗马名称「Cambria」，该地的寒武纪地层被最早研究。中文名称源自旧时日本人使用日语汉字音读的音译名“寒武纪”（音读：カンブキ，罗马字：kanbuki）。

寒武纪可再分为早寒武纪、中寒武纪、晚寒武纪。寒武纪是显生宙最早的地质时代，下一个纪是奥陶纪。

The Cambrian (pronunciation: /ˈkæmbriən/ or /ˈkeɪmbriən/) was the first geological period of the Paleozoic Era, lasting from 541 to 485.4 million years ago (mya) and was succeeded by the Ordovician. Its subdivisions, and indeed its base, are somewhat in flux. The period was established (as “Cambrian series”) by Adam Sedgwick, who named it after Cambria, the Latinised form of Cymru, the Welsh name for Wales, where Britain's Cambrian rocks are best exposed. The Cambrian is unique in its unusually high proportion of lagerstätte sedimentary deposits. These are sites of exceptional preservation, where "soft" parts of organisms are preserved as well as their more resistant shells. This means that our understanding of the Cambrian biology surpasses that of some later periods.
