彩虹，又称天弓（客家话）、天虹、绛等，简称虹，是气象中的一种光学现象，当太阳光照射到半空中的水滴，光线被折射及反射，在天空上形成拱形的七彩的光谱，彩虹的七彩颜色究竟是哪七种有不同的说法，东亚、中国对于七色光来说最普遍的说法是（从外至内）：红、橙、黄、绿、蓝、靛、紫。事实上彩虹有数百万种颜色，比如，在红色和橙色之间还有许多种细微差别的颜色，但为了简便起见，所以只用七种颜色作为区别。

其实只要空气中有水滴，而阳光正在观察者的背后以低角度照射，便可能产生可以观察到的彩虹现象，彩虹最常在下午，雨后刚转天晴时出现，这时空气内尘埃少而充满小水滴，天空的一边因为仍有雨云而较暗，而观察者头上或背后已没有云的遮挡而可见阳光，这样彩虹便会较容易被看到。另一个经常可见到彩虹的地方是瀑布附近，在晴朗的天气下背对阳光在空中洒水或喷洒水雾，亦可以制造人工彩虹。
