Kokkola (Swedish:Karleby) is a town and municipality of Finland. The town is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Central Ostrobothnia region. The town has a population of 47,430 (30 June 2015) and covers an area of 2,730.81 square kilometres (1,054.37 sq mi) of which 1,286.61 km (496.76 sq mi) is water. The population density is 32.84 inhabitants per square kilometre (85.1/sq mi). Neighbour municipalities are Halsua, Kalajoki, Kannus, Kaustinen, Kronoby, Lestijärvi, Larsmo and Toholampi.
