鹿儿岛市是位于日本九州岛南端的一个城市，是鹿儿岛县的县厅所在地，也是鹿儿岛县的政治、经济、文化中心，人口数占了全鹿儿岛县的35%，同时也是九州地方人口是第四多的城市，次于福冈市、北九州市、熊本市。鹿儿岛市亦是全国人口第二多的中核市，次于千叶县船桥市。

鹿儿岛市位于萨摩半岛的东北部，也是全鹿儿岛县的中央地区，东部临鹿儿岛湾，隔着海湾的火山岛樱岛也属于鹿儿岛市，樱岛至今仍然持续有火山活动，也使得鹿儿岛市成为世界上少数紧邻活火山的大城市。

主要产要为饮料、饲料、烟草、食品加工和出版印刷。

Kagoshima(鹿児岛市,Kagoshima-shi) is the capital city of Kagoshima Prefecture at the south western tip of the island of Kyushu in Japan, and the largest city in the prefecture by some margin. It has been nicknamed the "Naples of the Eastern world" for its bay location (Aira Caldera), hot climate, and emblematic stratovolcano, Sakurajima. The city was officially founded on April 1, 1889.
