职业英语:Job),是一种日常性的规律劳动,其目的在于换取劳动所得(也就是薪资),亦象征在社会上的地位和名誉等等。职场上的专门行业,是对劳动的分类。职业是社会分工的产物,西方商品经济发达的社会,通常指具有一定专长的社会性工作。划分的方式很多,也没有定势,通常以所从事的产业或行业为主,并结合工作特点混合使用。职业在英语当中对应于Profession、Occupation,作为术语概念有差异。

中文词汇“职业”作为术语,有时指工作(集合名词),其概念与时代、社会经济水准有关。一定时期有时包含社会地位的成分。如仆人、佣人、长工在经济落后时代代表地位和社会阶层,在中国大陆被称为保姆,职业作为一种概念,与经济发展的水准、社会政治制度有很大关系,如词汇“农民”,1980年代以前的计划经济时代多指个人身份,而且除非“农转非”、大学升学可以改变;在现代西方社会,农民是一种职业,多指农场的工人。
