妒忌是一种人与人关系性的体现；是人情感的表现。由于怨恨且察觉他人享有之利益，并欲将其占为己有，因而产生的一种情感与心理状态。一般让人感受到的是难受的滋味，严重的会产生恨的情感。

忌妒心重的人通常具有比较强的攻击性以及反社会的倾向，会去扭曲事实导向对自己有利的条件，也比较会参与暴力事件与欺凌变成加害者，因此常常出现在文学作品中的反派角色的人格身上，许多哲学家曾研究不同的方式转念改变忌妒心态的方法。

比如家庭中的两个孩子，一个看到另一个得到了父母更多的关心时，容易产生这种情感；又如班级里面看到别人比我考的成绩好时，得到了老师更多的关注，会产生这种情感；又比如在公司的位置，他比我做得更好时，得到经理更多的赏识，会有这种情感。若和我没有一点点的性关系的基础，是不会有这种情感的。解决这个需要客观的看待所面临的事情，谦卑的姿态。

Jealousy is an emotion, and the word typically refers to the thoughts and feelings of insecurity, fear, concern, and anxiety over an anticipated loss or status of something of great personal value, particularly in reference to a human connection. In its original meaning, jealousy is distinct from envy, though the two terms have popularly become synonymous in the English language, with jealousy now also taking on the definition originally used for envy alone. Jealousy is a typical experience in human relationships. It has been observed in infants five months and older. Some claim that jealousy is seen in every culture; however, others claim jealousy is a culture-specific phenomenon.
