信息超载，意指接受太多信息，反而影响正常的理解与决策。

信息超载这个词通常与电脑媒体有关的传播模式一起使用，如：电子信箱。他是指做决定时拥有太多的信息。当有大量的历史性信息需要被挖掘，又有高比例的新信息被增加，因此造成很难去分辨哪些信息与这个决定有关。此时又缺乏方法去比较或是分析不同种类的信息。

在New Scientist最近的一篇文章中提到，将个人暴露于一个信息超载的环境下比将他们置于大麻的环境下，更加会使他们变成低IQ的人，这篇文章也指出当过度暴露于信息超载的环境下会使人衰弱就像一个晚上没有睡觉一样。
