白炽（英语：Incandescence），又译为白热，是指对一个物体施加能量，使它温度上升，直到产生可见光的现象。蜡烛燃烧时发出的火焰，即是碳分子产生的白炽状态，电灯泡也是使用这个原理来发光。它的字根源自于拉丁文incandescere，意思是「白热化」。

它是热辐射的一个特殊状况。理论上，一个完全黑暗的物体，经由施加能量，将会放射出电磁辐射，这被称为黑体辐射，它的光谱可以由普朗克定理得知。一个黑体可能辐射出的总功率，可以由斯特藩－玻尔兹曼定律计算出来。由维恩位移定律则可以得知它所发射电磁辐射的波长。如果这个波长，落在可见光光谱的范围内，就会出现白炽现象。

Incandescence is the emission of electromagnetic radiation (including visible light) from a hot body as a result of its temperature. The term derives from the Latin verb incandescere, to glow white.

Incandescence is a special case of thermal radiation. Incandescence usually refers specifically to visible light, while thermal radiation refers also to infrared or any other electromagnetic radiation.
