氢经济（英文：Hydrogen Economy）一词，由John Bockris 在美国通用汽车公司（General Motors）技术中心于1970年演讲所创。当时发生第一次能源危机时，主要为描绘未来氢气取代石油成为支撑全球经济的主要能源后，整个氢能源生产、配送、贮存及使用的市场运作体系。
氢经济即是利用氢气经过化学反应后所产生的能量，是燃料电池的一种，它不但不会产生废气污染环境，而且也可以保存能量，所以是目前正在研究大量生产的方法。
目标是取代现有的石油经济体系，并达到环保目标，但是诸多技术瓶颈导致「先有鸡、先有蛋」的循环难题，很多氢设备要大量使用才有成本效益，但是不先装设这些天价设备；则根本无法吸引人使用，更不会有相关产业，如何过渡到氢时代是氢经济的研究课题。
