水鳖目为单子叶植物的一目。仅有水鳖科一科及其下的16属。该目植物属于沉水或出水草本，叶子通常丛生，呈现线形，长度在15公分至65公分，茎成蔓延状，而在生长环境方面，则通常出现在水田、沟渠、池塘及湖沼湿地。

在**，瘤果篑藻、有尾篑藻、日本篑藻、水蕴草、水王孙、水车前、大苦草、苦草均属于水鳖目水鳖科，而除了东部地区，全岛均有分布。不过这些野生科种，因福寿螺等公害而有大量减少趋势。

2003年的APG II植物分类系统就取消了水鳖目这个目，而将水鳖目的种类改分类至泽泻目下。
