编年体 Annals

编年体是以历史事件发生的时间为顺序，来编撰、记述历史的一种方式。以编年体纪录的历史称为编年史。比较著名的编年体史书有：中国的《春秋》、《竹书纪年》、《资治通鉴》、《续资治通鉴》、《明通鉴》等，以及日本的正史六国史，《日本书纪》、《续日本纪》、《日本后纪》、《续日本后纪》、《日本文德天皇实录》、《日本三代实录》等，越南的正史《钦定越史通鉴纲目》等。而《史记》等中国官方正史“二十四史”，则是以纪传体的形式记述的。

刘知几《史通》曾说：“至于贤士贞女，高才俊德，事当冲要者，必盱衡而备言，在沉冥者，不枉道而详说。如绛县之老、杞梁之妻，或以酬晋卿而获记，或以对齐君而见录，其有贤如柳惠、仁若颜回，终不得彰其名氏、显其言行。故论其细也，则纤芥无遗，语其粗也，则丘山是弃。此其所以为短也。”
