Chlorhexidine is an antibacterial used as an antiseptic and for other applications. It is a cationic polybiguanide (bisbiguanide). It is used primarily as its salts (e.g., the dihydrochloride, diacetate, and digluconate).
It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines, a list of the most important medications needed in a basic health system.
