漂浮性水生植物为没有根固定在土里的水生植物，植物体本身会随着水流四处漂移。

• 漂浮性水生植物其植物体的体型也较小，但是繁殖力相当惊人。
• 此类植物在水位过低时，根部就会固着在泥土中，但因定着性较差，所以，水位升高后，根部便会重新脱离土壤，漂浮在水面上。
• 其植物体内会有保存空气的构造，像气室之类的，而叶面则有纤毛或蜡质，使水珠不易附着，这些特点均可使植物本身增加浮力，有助于植物体漂浮在水面生长。
• 例如：布袋莲、槐叶苹、浮萍及大萍等。

A helophyte is a plant that grows in marsh, partly submerged in water, so that it regrows from buds below the water surface.

Fringing stands of tall vegetation by water basins and rivers may include helophytes. Examples include stands of Equisetum fluviatile, Glyceria maxima, Hippuris vulgaris, Sagittaria, Carex, Schoenoplectus, Sparganium, Acorus, yellow flag (Iris pseudacorus), Typha and Phragmites australis.
