切腹是用脇差等刀切开腹部的自杀仪式,主要为日本武士所实行,日本文化中,将切腹视为有尊严的死法。近代除了自杀,也用在处刑。也称为腹切り(はらきり)、割腹(かっぷく)、或屠腹(とふく)。

切腹自杀者日语称为「切腹人」,而切腹人如为了追随君主而自杀殉葬,则称为「追腹」。切腹后产生剧痛,亦不太会即刻死亡,为了减轻痛苦,可能会找介错,在最痛苦的一刻,将切腹人斩首。

Seppuku (切腹 or せっぷく, "stomach- or abdomen-cutting") or harakiri (腹切り, "cutting the belly") is a form of Japanese ritual suicide by disembowelment. It was originally reserved for samurai. Part of the samurai bushido honor code, seppuku was used either voluntarily by samurai to die with honor rather than fall into the hands of their enemies (and likely suffer torture) or as a form of capital punishment for samurai who had committed serious offenses, or performed because they had brought shame to themselves. The ceremonial disembowelment, which is usually part of a more elaborate ritual and performed in front of spectators, consists of plunging a short blade, traditionally a tantō, into the abdomen and drawing the blade from left to right, slicing the abdomen open.
