3640 Gostin (1985 TR3) is a main-belt asteroid discovered on October 11, 1985 by Shoemaker, C. and Shoemaker, E. at Palomar.
It is named after geologist Victor A. Gostin of the University of Adelaide, who in the 1980s discovered the ejecta layer from the Acraman bolide impact at a distance of 300km from the impact site, within Ediacaran sedimentary rocks of the Flinders Ranges, South Australia, which enabled the impact to be dated at ~580 Ma.
