这一年四季都会结果，长得很像橄榄的植物。是羽状落叶乔木，约9-12米高（最高18米左右），枝叶20到60厘米长。原产于玻里尼西亚，生长在热带国家。

开花时节约在6~7月间，花呈淡黄色或白色。

果实产期约在9月中旬，呈卵圆形，橙黄色，无硬核。约6到9厘米长，成串生长，一般12个以上。果实呈绿色，成熟后变成金黄色，口感很像芒果青，微酸中略带一点甜味，也比较不具有涩味。

果实属于碱性水果，饭后食用可以去油。果肉中含有较多粗纤维，有助于消化。
