民族学（英语：Ethnology，源自希腊语：ἔθνος，意指“民族，国族，种族”）是人类学的分支。本学科比较与分析人类的族群、种族与（或）国家群体之间的起源、分布、技术、宗教、语言与社会结构。

相较于民族志——透过直接接触单一群体的文化，对其进行研究，民族学采用民族志研究者曾撰述的内容，并比较与对比不同的文化。民族学此名称由亚当·寇拉（Adam Franz Kollár）所创，1783年他于维也纳出版《匈牙利帝国历史与宪法的舒适设施》（"Amenities of the History and Constitutional Law of the Kingdom of Hungary.", Historiae ivrisqve pvblici Regni Vngariae amoenitates）一书中，使用与界定这个术语 。寇拉对于语言学与文化多样性的兴趣是由几个源头所触发的，包括他的家乡多语言的匈牙利王国，他在该帝国的斯洛伐克人地区的渊源，而且借由在鄂图曼土耳其帝国在更遥远的巴尔干半岛逐渐撤退之后所萌生的一些转变。

Ethnology (from the Greek ἔθνος, ethnos meaning "nation") is the branch of anthropology that compares and analyzes the characteristics of different peoples and the relationship between them (cf. cultural, social, or sociocultural anthropology).
