Dumaguete, officially City of Dumaguete (Cebuano:Dakbayan sa Dumaguete; Hiligaynon:Dakbanwa/Syudad sang Dumaguete; Filipino:Lungsod ng Dumaguete) and often referred to as Dumaguete City, is a component city in the Philippine province of Negros Oriental. It is the capital, principal seaport, and largest city of the province in terms of population. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 120,883 people. The city is nicknamed The City of Gentle People.
