印度南部是指在今日印度共和国南部的安得拉邦、卡纳塔克邦、喀拉拉邦、泰米尔纳德邦四个邦以及拉克沙群岛和本地治里两个联邦属地组成的范围，共占整个印度的面积达19.31%。在印度国歌《人民的意志》歌词里的一句「以至达罗毗荼」（draviḍa）所指的就是这里。

印度南部位于德干高原以南的半岛，西面被阿拉伯海包围，南面是印度洋，东面是孟加拉湾。当地的地理多样：它被东、西高止山脉两边包夹，中心地带是高原。戈达瓦里河、克里希纳河、栋格珀德拉河及卡弗里河均为当地重要的非常年水源。

印度南部居民的日常语言绝大多数均属于达罗毗荼语系，不论是泰卢固语、泰米尔语、卡纳达语、马拉雅拉姆语还是图鲁语。在印度南部过往的历史中，它曾经被不同的王朝所统治过；而这些王朝所管治的地域亦延伸至整个南亚，甚至东南亚。在印度邻近的斯里兰卡、新加坡、菲律宾、印尼、泰国及马来西亚均曾受过来自印度南部的王朝的影响。后来，在大英帝国于南亚扩张其势力时，印度南部亦被英属东印度公司殖民化，沦为英国的殖民地，并被集成到大英帝国之内。

South India is the area encompassing the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana as well as the union territories of Andaman and Nicobar, Lakshadweep and Puducherry, occupying 19.31% of India's area (635,780 km or 245,480 sq mi). Covering the southern part of the peninsular Deccan Plateau, South India is bounded by the Bay of Bengal in the east, the Arabian Sea in the west and the Indian Ocean in the south. The geography of the region is diverse with two mountain ranges - the Western and Eastern Ghats, bordering the plateau heartland. Godavari, Krishna, Kaveri, Tungabhadra and Vaigai rivers are important non-perennial sources of water. Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Coimbatore and Kochi are the largest urban areas in the region.
